Whether you're trying to hold your attention on your breath, the sensations in your body or the compassion in your heart, there is almost always a background track playing. It says things like, hey - you’re wandering again, or, my back hurts, or it’s probably best to stop early and change the load of laundry.
For most of us, the background track is going almost non-stop. And that’s normal!!! I’m not concerned with the track as much as the “tone” of the track. Is it kind and curious or judgey and mean-spirited?
Whatever it is, it’s likely the same tone that’s going most of the day. And whether the tone is warm and fuzzy or mean and short-tempered makes all the difference! Because that tone may be the source of much of our pain and suffering. So instead of giving all of our attention to the object of our meditation (the breath, sensations, sounds, etc) let’s also get curious about that background track and explore how to develop a tone that frees us from that suffering.
I'm offering two weekly options, one in person and one on zoom. You'll receive an email after you register asking which you prefer.
We'll meet in person on Tuesday's, 6:00 - 7:00 pm (MST).
Or on zoom, Wednesday's, 5:30-6:30.
I'll introduce a new meditation practice. And I'll share the benefits of the practice and why you might choose to work with it on any given day.
I'll also offer a technique to help you notice the background track of thoughts, emotions, images and sensations that play out while you try to stay focused on the meditation practice.
We'll reflect on the tone of that background track - noticing whether the commentary about the track is friendly or unfriendly, discerning or judgmental.
You'd like support in starting or reinforcing a meditation practice.
You're curious about the benefits of different kinds of meditations.
In life and in meditation, you notice self-criticism or a less-than-friendly tone and you'd like to change that.
You think that being curious about where your mind goes when you are trying to meditate is a worthwhile exploration.
You'd like to spend some time meditating in community.
You are a mental health or wellness professional interested in offering your clients mindfulness tools.
In each of the 5, 60 minute classes, I'll teach a meditation practice, a technique to help you notice what's arising in the background and a guided meditation to consider the "tone" of the background track.
We'll have space for reflection, questions and discussion.
The classes will be supported by 5 online modules including class recordings, guided meditations, journal prompts, and optional accountability partners.
Classes will be recorded in the event that you can’t make it or would like to review it.
Students that participate live will also receive the recording of the zoom class.
You’ll have access to me via email and quick phone or zoom chats throughout the 30 days should you have questions or need additional support.

Classes will be recorded so you can watch at your convenience and many students will have to miss a class. That said, I recommend that you come to as many classes as you can. Part of what makes this course special is the community aspect. Being with the group plays its own magical part in your experience.
Very little! You'll have access to a course page with class recordings and resources but you don't have to use it. It is more so that you can refer back to the teachings when you want to support your practice or be reminded of particular concepts. You do not have to use this resource if it doesn't feel supportive.
I recommend 10-20 minutes per day for guided meditations and a few pauses built into your day to check in. I'll also offer journal prompts to help you integrate what you are noticing in your practices.
